A Week of Photography: My Best Shots
A creative mix of abstract, street, and light experiments during a company trip
This week, I went on a company trip and used the opportunity to experiment with my photography. Instead of focusing on typical landscapes or famous spots, I explored abstract forms, street scenes, and unique lighting. Below are my favorite shots from the trip, each capturing something unexpected and intriguing.

This photograph captures a sense of solitude and minimalism, featuring a lone bird perched on a geometrically structured platform jutting into calm waters. The contrast between the organic shape of the bird and the rigid, angular lines of the concrete structure creates an engaging visual tension. The reflective surface of the water, with its soft ripples, complements the stillness of the scene, enhancing the quiet and contemplative mood.

This photograph captures a quiet yet powerful moment of my working colleague smoking a cigarette, gazing out towards the sea. The pronounced wrinkles on his face add a sense of depth and texture, enhancing the dynamism and drama of the scene. The black-and-white treatment emphasizes the facial features, particularly the rough texture of the skin, which contrasts with the soft, curling smoke.

This black-and-white photograph captures my finance manager walking while on the phone, highlighting a moment of motion. The contrast between the dark figure and the light pavement creates a sense of isolation and focus on the subject. The trees on the right add texture and depth, their shadows extending across the scene. The interplay of shadows and light emphasizes the balance between nature and urban life. Overall, the image feels introspective, evoking thoughts of routine and the passing of time.

This photograph presents a powerful silhouette of my general manager in front of three national flags (Croatia, Slovenia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina). The contrast between the dark profile of the speaker and the bright, minimalist background immediately draws attention. The use of silhouette strips away the personal identity of the speaker, shifting the focus onto the act of speaking and the symbolic significance of the flags.

This photograph captures a moment of elegance and playfulness, as a woman dressed in formal black attire ascends a staircase, holding two bright orange balloons. The vibrant color of the balloons and the matching orange heels stand out against the muted stone steps, creating a striking contrast. The upward movement of the figure, combined with the dynamic composition, evokes a sense of anticipation or celebration, blending formal sophistication with a hint of whimsy. The framing keeps the identity of the subject hidden, adding a layer of mystery and focus on the visual elements.

This photograph showcases a stunning interplay between light and darkness, featuring three glowing, red-orange lamp-like structures against a deep black background. The gradual decrease in size of the lights, from left to right, adds a sense of depth and progression, guiding the viewer's eye through the composition. The vibrant, warm glow of the lamps contrasts sharply with the surrounding darkness, creating a visually striking and almost otherworldly effect. The organic, curved shapes of the lamps resemble abstract flowers, enhancing the surreal and ethereal atmosphere of the image.

This photograph captures a blurred figure in motion, which gives the image a ghostly and ethereal quality. The subject, a woman, is slightly smiling, but the movement creates a sense of duality, as if there are multiple layers of her expression or being. The soft blur adds a dreamlike or surreal effect, evoking a feeling of fleeting time or transient emotions.
The background, with the hanging lamp casting a strong light, contrasts with the movement of the figure, grounding the image with a static object while the subject appears almost otherworldly. The use of black and white heightens the sense of mystery and abstraction, stripping away distractions and leaving only the interplay of light, shadow, and movement.
